Overview

The Skills section allows you to explore and assign specialized capabilities to your AI agent. Skills expand your agent beyond standard text conversations, enabling it to query live data, execute code, and communicate through external services.

Understanding how to browse and discover skills helps you quickly find ready-to-use platform tools or connect existing workspace integrations without unnecessary setup.

Prerequisites

Before browsing and managing skills, ensure you have:

  • A Swiftask account with access to an active workspace.

  • An existing custom agent or permissions to create and edit agents in your workspace.

Step-by-step guide

1. Navigate to the Skills section

Open the agent configuration page for your agent. In the left navigation menu, expand Agent Instruction and select Skills.

The main Skills page displays your current active skills, a curated discovery section, and a button to open the full catalog.

2. Review default active skills

Every new agent automatically comes equipped with two core skills under Active skills:

  • Python: Code + Upload + Visualization: Allows your agent to execute Python code in an isolated environment, process uploaded files (CSV, Excel, JSON), and generate visual charts.

  • Internet search with Perplexity: Grants real-time web browsing capabilities to fetch up-to-date information.

These tools are pre-installed by default so your agent can manipulate data and access current online information without requiring manual setup.

3. Explore inline discovery tabs and connectors

The Discover skills section provides fast access to popular tools organized across four inline tabs:

  • Recently used: Displays skills you or your team interacted with recently.

  • Newest: Highlights the latest skills, tools, and integrations added to Swiftask.

  • Standard skills: Features essential built-in tools such as email handlers, web searchers, and protocol connectors.

  • Connectors: Dedicated integrations that link your agent to external third-party platforms.

Connector tools (such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Notion) bridge your agent with external APIs and services. Unlike self-contained utilities, connectors allow your agent to read and write data in your external accounts once authenticated.

4. Browse all skills and filter by workspace skills

To access the complete skill library, click the red + Browse all skills button at the top right of the Skills page.

In the modal that opens, you can search for tools using the Search skills… bar or switch between two views:

  • ALL: Displays the entire catalog of available platform skills, integrations, and tools.

  • WORKSPACE SKILLS: Shows only skills that have already been configured or connected within your workspace, allowing team members to reuse existing integrations without re-entering credentials.

5. Review available skill categories

The skills library is grouped into functional categories to help you locate the right tools:

  • Featured: Highlighted, high-utility tools recommended for everyday workflows.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Tools for AI-driven image generation, audio editing, and specialized model execution.

  • Business management: Workflow automation, task tracking, and operations tools.

  • Communication: Email toolkits (Gmail, Outlook, IMAP/SMTP) and team messaging integrations.

  • Web & research: Live search engines (Perplexity, Tavily, Staan) and interactive browser automation.

  • Connectors & MCP: Third-party SaaS connectors and Model Context Protocol integrations for custom developer tooling.

Practical use cases

Equipping a research assistant with real-time web tools

A market research agent utilizes the default Internet search with Perplexity skill combined with newly discovered research tools from the Web & research category to gather live competitive insights.

Setting up an executive assistant with communication connectors

An executive assistant agent requires calendar management and email dispatching. Browsing the Connectors tab lets you locate and select Google Calendar and Gmail to handle meeting schedules and email drafting.

Reusing team integrations across multiple agents

Instead of authenticating new third-party accounts for every agent, team members switch to the WORKSPACE SKILLS tab to quickly add pre-authenticated database and CRM connectors already configured in the workspace.

Tips & best practices

  • Check workspace skills first: Look under WORKSPACE SKILLS to see if a colleague has already connected the tool you need.

  • Review default skills before adding duplicates: Keep the default Python and Perplexity skills active unless your agent specifically does not require code execution or live web search.

  • Use direct keyword search: If you know the name of an integration or protocol (e.g., "MCP" or "Outlook"), type it directly into the search bar for instant filtering.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find a skill in the inline tabs

The inline tabs only display a curated selection. Click + Browse all skills and use the search bar in the ALL tab to access the complete catalog.

A connector does not work immediately after selection

Connectors link to external third-party services. They require authentication or API configuration before your agent can execute actions through them.

Default skills were accidentally removed

If you delete the default Python or Perplexity skills, open the + Browse all skills modal, search for "Python" or "Perplexity", and re-add them to your agent.
